Biographical Information[edit]

Frank Whitman, who pitched a couple of years for the Chicago White Sox, is the last major league player to come out of Cornell University and the only major league player to have attended Eureka College, the college where Ronald Reagan went.

He was a shortstop, trying to make the White Sox team at a time when Luke Appling still owned the position. Although Appling was 39 in 1946 and 41 in 1948, the two years when Whitman had his shots, Appling was still playing almost every day.
