Biographical Information[edit]
Frank Walsh was a National League umpire from 1961 to 1963, first coming up in September of 1961 and working the remainder of that season and the next two seasons ion their entirety.
He had begun umpiring in the Appalachian League in 1951 and worked in various minor league circuits until reaching the Texas League in 1957. It was from there that he was promoted to the National League, in time for the expansion of 1962, without having worked in a AAA circuit. He was listed as having been born in 1913 at the time, which would have made him 48, but he was in fact even older than that as his real birth year was 1905. In any case, after his two and a bit seasons in the NL, he returned to the minor leagues after a year, working in the Texas League from 1965 until 1968, and then in the American Association for two years when it was re-formed in 1969 after a hiatus of seven years. He retired after the 1970 season. In 1966 he was given an award for calling 4,000 consecutive games. In 2008 he was elected to the Texas League Hall of Fame.
