Biographical Information

Frank Sexton pitched one season in the majors with the 1895 Boston Beaneaters, but was more commonly in the sports news because of his college coaching.

He coached baseball at Brown University for 12 years, Harvard University for 5 years, and the University of Michigan for 3 years (1896, 1901-1902).

Sexton became famous while a college student because he and Fred Tenney formed a successful battery in the early 1890's at Brown. Tenney went on to a long career as a major league player (moving from catcher to first base) while Sexton became a doctor in Massachusetts and a college coach.

In 1915 Sexton had a highly-publicized parting from Harvard when there was a disagreement about the use of assistant coaches. Sexton later sued Harvard regarding his salary, alleging some was unpaid from 1913.
