Biographical Information[edit]
Oberlin was born on March 29, 1876, in Elsie, Michigan. Oberlin didn't go to college, yet didn't break into the Major Leagues until September 20, 1906 (when he was already 30 years old). He was a pitcher for the Boston Americans at the time.
Oberlin pitched four games for the Americans that year, going 1-3, yet striking out 13 batters and having an ERA of just 3.18. Oberlin pitched 12 games with the Americans the next year, before being traded to the Washington Senators. He pitched 11 games with the Senators that year, finishing his 1907 season with a total record of 3-11.
Oberlin did not play in the Major Leagues at all in 1908. After that, he played the 1909 season and 1910 season with the Senators, before retiring at age 34.
On January 6, 1952, Oberlin died at age 75 in Ashley, Indiana. He was buried in Hamilton, Indiana.
