Biographical Information

Frank MacCormack pitched in the majors in 1976 and 1977.

MacCormack was born in Jersey City, NJ and attended Rutgers University. The most recent Rutgers player to come to the majors before him was Jeff Torborg.

Frank was signed as a free agent by the Detroit Tigers in 1974 and pitched six seasons in the minors. He was mostly a starter although he was primarily used in relief in 1975.

He made his major league debut with the Tigers in June of 1976 for manager Ralph Houk. There were two other players of the same age (21) who appeared for the Tigers that year: Mark Fidrych and Jason Thompson. The three were the youngest players on the team. Fidrych also pitched 6 games that year for the Evansville Triplets with an ERA of 1.58 while MacCormack had 3 games for Evansville with an ERA of 1.42.

After the season the new Seattle Mariners picked him up in the expansion draft. Frank got into only 3 games with the Mariners in 1977, but his ERA of 3.86 was better than the team ERA of 4.83. At age 22, Frank was the same age as teammate Ruppert Jones.

He pitched in the minors in 1978 and 1979.

After baseball he joined his father's insurance agency and eventually became president of the agency.

He is not to be confused with a player of a similar name, Frank McCormick.
