Biographical Information[edit]

Frank Freund played two games for the Louisville Colonels in 1896, on a team whose regular catcher was Charlie Dexter, a player almost the same age as Freund and also born in Indiana. In addition to playing, Freund was also involved in an altercation that got him arrested, along with (apparently) Fred Clarke and an umpire, who Sporting Life's Louisville correspondent said was not impartial. Ducky Holmes, another Louisville player, said Freund was blameless.

Frank was born, and died, in Jeffersonville, IN, across the river from Louisville, KY, for whose team he played in the majors.

" Friend (sic), the new catcher, made a fair impression." - Sporting Life's comment about Freund's major league debut (issue of August 8, 1896)
