Biographical Information

Frank Emmer's two major league stints were 10 years apart, although they were with the same team.

Emmer was 20 when he first came up with the 1916 Reds. He had previously played pro ball in 1915.

His second time was with the 1926 Reds, and Lee Allen's book The Cincinnati Reds mentioned that the Reds looked far and wide for a shortstop for the 1926 season, finally settling reluctantly on Sam Bohne, a weak-hitting player who usually played second base, and bringing back Emmer as backup (Emmer had hit .329 with Seattle in 1925). Neither Bohne nor Emmer impressed early in the season, but Emmer ended up getting more games at the position than anyone else on the team. Emmer was eventually traded with more than half the season gone to Minneapolis for Horace "Hod" Ford, who would stay six years with Cincinnati.

The Reds' second place finish in 1926 was the best they would do until they won the pennant in 1939.

Emmer played for Minneapolis from 1926-31, hitting .350 in 1930. During the winter, he was in the California Winter League.

Edd Roush was on both the 1916 and 1926 teams with him, both times playing centerfield.
