Biographical Information

Frank De Los Santos pitched professionally from 2007 to 2015. He spent part of three seasons at Triple-A and earned a call to the majors, but never played in a big league game.

He played in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays/Rays system from 2007 to 2013. In 2007, he tied multiple players for the Appalachian League lead in starts with 13 and in 2009, he tied Charles Leesman and Johnny Dorn for the South Atlantic League lead in starts with 27. He finished with ten-plus victories for the first and only time in 2010, when he went 10-9 with a 4.33 ERA in 25 games (24 starts) for the Charlotte Stone Crabs; he also recorded only his shutout that year, which was enough to qualify him for second (in a tie with many others) in the league in complete games and shutouts, behind Brad Hand, who had two of each. He was also second in hits allowed (181), behind Robert Bono's 187. Perhaps his best campaign was 2012, when he was used primarily as a relief pitcher. In 51 games, he went 7-2 with a 2.11 ERA; he split the year between the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (24 G, 2.06 ERA) and Triple-A Durham Bulls (27 G, 2.18 ERA). That was his first taste of Triple-A. He would never experience such success again at that level, posting a career 4.46 ERA there. On May 5, 2013, while with Durham, he partook in a combined no-hitter against the Pawtucket Red Sox. Jake Odorizzi started the game, De Los Santos took over for him, Kirby Yates relieved De Los Santos and Jeff Beliveau finished the game. De Los Santos was the only one from that group to never reach the majors. Despite surrendering no hits, the Bulls barely eked out a victory, winning 2-1.

On September 21, 2013, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox for a player to be named later. On May 3, 2014, the White Sox called de los Santos up after placing Adam Eaton on the disabled list with a hamstring strain -- only to return him to Triple-A the very same night. He did not appear in the one regular-season game in which he wore a big-league uniform. He wrapped up his career after pitching a single game for the independent Lancaster Barnstormers in 2015. He was also an occasional presence in the Dominican Winter League throughout his career.

Overall, De Los Santos went 35-41 with a 4.09 ERA in 222 games (85 starts) in eight seasons in affiliated ball. In 657 1/3 innings, he allowed 730 hits and 197 walks (1.410 WHIP), while striking out 427 batters. At all levels, including winter league play, he went 35-41 with a 4.15 ERA in 233 games (85 starts). He was a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star in 2012.
