Biographical Information

Catcher Francisco Arcia played 12 seasons in the minors before finally getting a shot at the major leagues in mid-season with the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. He received his opportunity due to the trade of Martin Maldonado to the Houston Astros a day earlier. Francisco got off to a tremendous start, becoming the first player in major league history to drive in 10 runs in his first two games. The previous record of 9 RBI was held by Joe Cunningham who did it with the 1954 St. Louis Cardinals. In his debut on July 26th, he went 2 for 4 with a homer and 4 RBI, then on July 28th, he homered and drove in 6 runs in an 11-5 win over the Seattle Mariners. He was also the first player in Angels history to homer in his first two games.

On September 20th, he added his name to the record books with another footnote as he became the first player to catch, pitch and homer in the same game; that peculiar set of circumstances took place in a 21-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics. He began the day catching, followed with two innings of mop-up relief in the lopsided loss, and finished his day's work by hitting a solo homer off Chris Hatcher in the 9th. It was actually his second pitching appearance of the year, as he had pitched a scoreless inning in a 7-0 loss, also against Oakland, on August 11th. His second mound outing was less successful, as he gave up 3 runs, the result of back-to-back homers by Nick Martini and Chad Pinder.
