Francesco Alaimo has played in the Italian Baseball League.
Alaimo debuted with Fortitudo Bologna in 2008 and hit .273/.341/.325. He fell to .179/.217/.196 in 2009 with 24 strikeouts in 56 at-bats but went 2 for 4 with a walk in the Italian Series, which Bologna won. He was used as a backup to Joe Mazzuca at 2B. His troubles got worse in 2010 as he eked out a .095/.192/.131 line with 36 whiffs in 84 at-bats while moving to the outfield (where he backed up Daniele Malengo, Stefano Landuzzi . He was 3 for 18 with a walk in the Italian Series, which Bologna dropped to Parma. He was better in the 2010 European Cup, though. In the first round, he was 6 for 13 with two doubles, a triple, 3 walks and 4 RBI, leading Bologna in OPS, beating out former major leaguer Eddy Garabito as well as some former minor leaguers. In the Final Four, he was 2 for 6 with a walk as Bologna won its first European Cup in 25 years.
