Fidel Romero debuted for the Camagüey club in the Cuban Serie Nacional in 2007-2008 Cuban National League; in 7 games, the teenager allowed 16 hits in 33 at-bats for a .485 average, with 8 runs in 5 2/3 IP.
Romero improved to 3-5, 6.38 in 2008-2009. He was better yet in 2009-2010 with a record of 4-8, 3.89, much better than the team ERA of 5.55. He was 4th in the league with 142 hits allowed and threw 6 complete games to tie Maikel Folch, Norberto González, Dalier Hinojosa and Yulieski González for the league lead.
