Fidel Azcuy pitched five seasons in Cuba and his brother Lázaro Azcuy also played in Cuba. His son Maikel Azcuy starred in Great Britain, making the British Baseball Hall of Fame.

He was 2-2 with a save and a 3.09 ERA inten games (four starts) for the Vegueros in 1985-1986. After a year away, he had a 3-1, 3.38 record in 1987-1988 and 4-1, 3.43 in 1989. In the Series Selectivas that year, he had a league-leading 2.85 ERA for Pinar del Río. He was 5-1 with a 2.91 ERA for the Vegueros in 1989-1990, with 54 K to 9 BB in 58 2/3 IP. He moved to the Forestales in 1990-1991 and fell to 2-7, 3.31 with a save to end his career. He had a 16-12, 3.21 record in 59 Serie Nacional games.
