Biographical Information[edit]

Felipe Alou Jr. is the son of former major league manager, Felipe Alou and Elsa Brens. A 40th round pick by the Kansas City Royals in the 1998 amateur draft, he played in the minor leagues for the Royals from 1998 to 2001, and in the short-lived Canadian Baseball League in 2003. He is the brother of major league outfielder Moises Alou, manager Luis Rojas and minor leaguer Jose Alou, nephew of Matty Alou and Jesus Alou, and cousin of former big leaguer Mel Rojas.

An outfielder, he reached AAA briefly with the Omaha Golden Spikes, for which he played 11 games in 2001, hitting .219. However, the remainder of his career was spent in the lower reaches of organized baseball, in the Gulf Coast League and Northwest League. He missed the entire 2000 season. He had very little power, hitting only 2 homers overall, both as a first-year player with the GCL Royals in 1998. He was one of the better hitters on the Montreal Royales of the CBL in 2003, hitting .264 against weak competition.

After his playing career, Alou remained involved in baseball. In 2007 he served as an Assistant to the Dominican Baseball Commissioner, an office affiliated with Major League Baseball. In 2008 the Baltimore Orioles hired Alou as their Dominican Academy Director, a position he held through the 2021 season. He became a manager with the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2022-2023.

Alou also has extensive winter coaching experience with Leones del Escogido in the Dominican League working mostly at first and third base. He may have coached each year, but these are the seasons that could be confirmed.

Alou started the 2022/2023 season as the Leones bench coach, but took over as manager on November 14th.
