Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Fay Thompson played in the Houston Astros system from 1974 to 1977 and in the Toronto Blue Jays chain in 1978. He was taken by Houston in the 4th round of the 1974 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of pitcher John Pacella, and began his career at 18 years old. With the Covington Astros his first year, he hit .295/.439/.657 with 19 home runs and 58 RBI in 62 games, earning a spot on the Appalachian League All-Star team. His slash line fell to .234/.355/.370 in 1975 and, though he recovered to hit 13 home runs in 1976 and 19 in 1978, he never posted such eye-popping numbers as he did in his initial campaign. Overall, he hit .275/.376/.483 with 60 home runs and 214 RBI in 398 games over 5 seasons.

He later became a scout for the Boston Red Sox and Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels organizations, signing, among others, Aaron Fuller.
