Biographical Information[edit]

Evan Crawford is a minor league outfielder.

Crawford hit .345 as a high school sophomore and stole 14 bases without getting caught. He improved to .446 with 26 steals as a junior and .462 as a senior, with 21 steals in 22 tries, to win All-State honors. Going on to college, he hit .333/.378/.432 as a freshman with 18 steals in 25 tries. His sophomore year, he batted .335/.382/.417 for Indiana with 18 stolen bases in 22 attempts. During his junior season, Crawford put up a line of .323/.406/.437 and stole 27 bases while being thrown out five times, moving from the infield to the outfield in the meantime. He led the Big Ten Conference in steals.

The San Francisco Giants chose him in the 9th round of the 2009 amateur draft. He split his first pro season between the AZL Giants (.273/.324/.318 in 16 G, 14 R, 9 SB, 0 CS) and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (.316/.375/.447 in 31 G). He began 2010 with the Augusta Greenjackets and hit .255/.319/.366 in 109 games, with 12 triples and 24 steals in 33 tries. The center fielder was leading the South Atlantic League in three-baggers when San Francisco dealt him to the Chicago Cubs for Mike Fontenot.
