Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Ev Joyner spent 13 years in the minor leagues, playing from 1949 to 1961. He reached Triple A in five seasons, but never made the majors.

Blessed with decent power, occasional speed and a great eye at the plate, Joyner hit 10 or more home runs in eight of his seasons, but never had more than 17; he stole over 10 bases twice, but never more than 12; he hit at least 10 triples thrice, with a peak of 14; he hit .300 or better seven times, with a high of .344; and, per records available, he never whiffed more than 41 times in a season.

Perhaps his best campaigns were during his tenure with the Shreveport Sports. In 1954, he hit .328/.394/.478 with 11 home runs, 74 RBI, 121 runs scored, 47 doubles and 213 hits in 160 games. Two years later, in 1956, he hit .344/.409/.502 with 13 home runs, 91 RBI, 114 runs scored, 43 doubles and 201 hits in 150 games. His first professional season, 1949, he led the Mississippi-Ohio Valley League in hits (170) and runs scored (104), while playing for the West Frankfort Cardinals and in 1951, he led the Inter-State League with 175 hits while playing for the Allentown Cardinals.

Per available statistics, he finished with at least 117 home runs, 611 RBI and 1,941 hits in 1,786 games.
