Eugene F. Bert
Eugene Bert was an attorney who was president of the California League and then was the first president of the Pacific Coast League (1903-1906). He attempted suicide in 1905 due to depression resulting from illness; he had initially claimed that a robber had attacked him. He had previously served as a California State Senator.
