Biographical Information[edit]
Eudie Napier was the starting catcher for the Homestead Grays in 1947 and 1948, being part of the team that won the 1948 Negro World Series. He succeeded the legendary Josh Gibson at the position. He was already 34 when Jackie Robinson broke the color line in the white major leagues, so there was little opportunity for him to follow his ground-breaking path, but he did play a few seasons in Organized Baseball, for the Farnham Pirates in the Provincial League, a team loaded with former Negro Leagues players, from 1949 to 1951. He then played semi-professional baseball in the Inter-County Baseball League, based in Ontario.
He settled back in Pittsburgh, PA after his playing career and worked as a janitor. He died there in 1983 at age 70.
Notable Achievements[edit]
