Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Ethan Faggett played in the minor leagues from 1992 to 2002 after being drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 33rd round of the 1992 amateur draft out of a high school in Texas.
He almost never had a professional career, hitting .175 and .172 for the GCL Red Sox in 1992 and 1993. Given a rare chance to repeat that level a third time, he finally put up some correct numbers in 1994, when he hit .291 in 41 games. After that, he had a normal progression up the minor league ladder, reaching AA with the Trenton Thunder at the end of the 1997 season. He hit a career-high .292 in 131 games that season
He is mostly remembered for being included in a major league trade on June 21, 1998 that saw him go from the Red Sox to the San Diego Padres along with C Jim Leyritz in return for three youngsters - Mandy Romero, Carlos Reyes and Dario Veras. Of the five players involved in the deal, he was the only one to never reach the majors. He was with the Sarasota Red Sox of the Florida State League at the time, and finished the year in AA with the Mobile BayBears of the Southern League. In 1999, he had a tremendous season as a base stealer, with 63 swipes in 128 games for Mobile, being caught just 14 times. However, his other numbers were not so eye-catching, with a batting line of .249/.320/.353. he had never stole more than 25 bases in a season before that. He finally reached AAA at the end of 2000, playing 34 games for the Las Vegas Stars after starting the year in Mobile, but he hit just .251 in 131 games, and even though he continued to display good speed with 38 stolen bases, his career in affiliated baseball ended after that season. He played two more years in independent leagues in 2001 and 2002, but only for a total of 40 games, before calling it quits for good,
