As of 2006, the most recent professional baseball club in Erwin, TN played at a time when few minor leagues were running, at the heart of World War II. The former Erwin Aces became the Erwin Cubs in 1944 and were last in the Appalachian League, 17 1/2 games behind the Kingsport Cherokees.
