Erwin Cubs

As of 2006, the most recent professional baseball club in Erwin, TN played at a time when few minor leagues were running, at the heart of World War II. The former Erwin Aces became the Erwin Cubs in 1944 and were last in the Appalachian League, 17 1/2 games behind the Kingsport Cherokees. The Cubs were outscored 708-617 and allowed the most runs in the league. Jim Poole served as player-manager while the offensive leader was 1B Earl York. York hit .345/~.375/.476 and led the loop with 30 steals and tied for second with nine triples.
