Biographical Information[edit]
Ernie Neitzke played outfield and pitched for the Boston Red Sox in 1921. As a hitter, his .345 OBP was higher than the team average although his SLG was well below. As a pitcher, he gave up 5 runs in 7.1 innings of work.
Neitzke had played for London (Ontario) in 1920, posting an ERA of 1.87 and also hitting 13 triples in 242 at-bats. The 1920 London Tecumsehs were one of history's great minor league teams, going 86-32. Along with Neitzke, the Red Sox also picked up Pinky Pittenger from London.
Although he typically had a winning record as a pitcher in the minors, he stopped pitching after 1925 and focused on being an outfielder. From 1928-1932 he played for Pueblo, twice hitting at least .340.
