Biographical Information[edit]
Ernie "Lefty" Alten pitched 14 games for the 1920 Detroit Tigers, a team managed by Hughie Jennings and which featured Ty Cobb and Harry Heilmann. Alten and Heilmann were the same age. Alten was in mid-career at the time, having started in the minors in 1914. He was primarily a pitcher, winning over 150 games in the minors, except that he played some outfield in 1924 and hit .297 for Nashville. As a comparison, Bevo LeBourveau hit .312 for the team while Dode Paskert, in his last pro year, hit .272 split among two teams in the league.
