Biographical Information[edit]

Erik Hemmerechts played for the Belgian national team that won Bronze Medals in the 1977 European Championship and 1985 European Championship. In the 1978 Amateur World Series (Belgium's first appearance in a global tournament, he was 0-2 with a 11.00 ERA and .463 opponent average, but still topped the team ERA of 11.70. He fared better at the plate, hitting .261/.320/.261, and also fielded .958 as their main shortstop. Among the starters, only Robert Van Lent had a higher average, by 2 points. He led the team in hits (6), one ahead of Van Lent and Willy Lagrilliere. His First Division career lasted until 1994, which he spent with the Antwerp Royal Greys.
