Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Eric Wagaman was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the minor league portion of the 2023 Rule V Draft. Before that, he had played in the New York Yankees system from 2017 to 2023 after having been drafted in the 13th round of the 2017 amateur draft. He had reached AA by the end of his tenure with the Yankees, after being forced to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic. His best year had been in 2022, when he combined to hit .258/.346/.468 with 13 homers in 69 games between the Class A Hudson Valley Renegades and AA Somerset Patriots.

After joining the Angels, he started the 2024 season back in AA with the Rocket City Trash Pandas of the Southern League, where he hit .260 in 94 games. He was promoted to the AAA Salt Lake Bees on August 4th and went on a tear, hitting .320 in 27 games to earn a promotion to the Show on September 10th. He made his debut that same day when he pinch-hit for 1B Nolan Schanuel in the 7th inning of a 10-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins and struck out against Pedro Lopez. He stayed in the game after that, but due to multiple substitutions played in left field for the rest of the game, with Charles Leblanc taking over at his more familiar position, first base.
