Biographical Information[edit]
Eric Peterson played ball at Temple University for two years. When Temple announced they were eliminating the baseball program he transferred to North Carolina State University. The Houston Astros drafted Peterson in the 37th round of the 2014 Amateur Draft and he played in their minor league system from 2014-2017. Used exclusively as a relief pitcher, Peterson appeared in 100 games earning a record of 15-9 with 18 saves and an ERA of 3.83. He completed his playing career in May 2017.
Shortly after that, Peterson joined Neumann University as an assistant coach for the 2018 season where he led that year’s Knights pitching staff to a 3.63 ERA, the lowest in the Atlantic East Conference since 2013. He joined USA Baseball in the summer of 2019 as a Prospect Development Pipeline Intern. In this capacity he traveled around the country evaluating players at amateur showcases and events. The St. Louis Cardinals hired Peterson in 2020 in the dual capacity of a fourth coach and professional scout. Due to COVID-19 shutting down the minor league season, he spent the year focused upon his scouting responsibilities. Peterson returned to school in 2021 to work on a master's degree at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. While there, he served as a graduate assistant coach with the Huskies baseball team.
In 2023 the Cardinals rehired Peterson, this time to serve as the pitching coach for the Springfield Cardinals. This pitching staff featured the Cardinals top two pitching prospects in RHPs Tink Hence and Tekoah Roby. After the season he worked as the pitching coach for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League. Peterson returned to Springfield in 2024.
