Biographical Information[edit]

Eric María has caught in the minors and for the Dominican national team.

He was signed by Tampa Bay Rays scouts Daniel Santana and Eddy Toledo in June 2012. [1] A third-string catcher for the 2012 DSL Rays, he hit .217/.288/.250 and fielded .928 there. In 2014, he batted .211/.274/.246 with the same team and fielded .940 at catcher with 18 passed balls but caught 41% of would-be base-stealers. He fell under the Mendoza Line with the '15 DSL Rays at .198/.289/.233 but cut his passed balls to 4 and again showed a good arm (39% CS). His offense picked up in his 4th go-around (.356/.430/.500) while his fielding improved to .964 but the Rays cut him loose after 4 years in the DSL. He signed with the independent Santa Fe Fuego. In the high-scoring Pecos League in 2016, he hit .448/.490/.655 with 52 runs and 49 RBI in 55 games. He led the league in average, .019 ahead of Cody Bishop. [2] Back with Santa Fe in 2017, he batted .359/.406/.502.

He made the Dominican squad for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
