Biographical Information[edit]

Coming out of high school, Eric Dorton was ranked the No. 1 player in New Mexico and also ranked the 319th (56th Outfielder) player nationally in 2008. He played college baseball at the four colleges noted above. He graduated in 2012 with a degree in sports and exercise science from West Texas A&M University. He returned to the West Texas Buffaloes for the 2013 season as a volunteer assistant coach. During the 2015 season Dorton worked as a graduate assistant coach while earning his MBA from West Texas.

After getting his masters degree Dorton turned to coaching full-time. He was an assistant coach for Tarleton State University in 2016 and for the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds in 2017-2018. In the fall of 2018 he served as the hitting coach for the Lamar Community College Runnin' Lopes.

Dorton moved to the professional coaching ranks in 2019 with the Texas Rangers organization. He was the AZL Rangers hitting coach in 2019 and was scheduled to return there in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. Dorton was the hitting coach for the Down East Wood Ducks in 2021 and the Frisco RoughRiders in 2022.
