- Bats Right, Throws Right
Biographical Information[edit]
Enzo Sanna has played in the Italian Baseball League.
Sanna debuted in Italy's highest level in 2000, hitting a meek .153/.257/.227 at age 16/17 for Anzio. He had 8 RBI and 56 strikeouts in 150 at-bats. One positive was his throwing arm at catcher, throwing out 31 of 70 (44.2%) attempted base-stealers. In 2001, he moved to the outfield primarily and improved to .303/.385/.360 with 33 RBI. He fell to .275/.363/.358 with 28 walks as a catcher-outfielder in 2002. This time, opponents stole at a 78% success rate. In 2003, he hit .300/.360/.417 as Anzio's right fielder, also catching on occasion. He played for the Italian national team in the 2003 Baseball World Cup, going 0 for 6 and getting hit by a pitch. He backed up Mario Chiarini in right field and Christopher Rosado in left field. The next year, his batting line fell to .241/.333/.289 and he allowed 88.5% of base thieves to be successful (46 SB, 6 CS).
Moving to Grosseto in 2005, he was 17 for 66 with 14 walks, a double and a triple. He continued to get worse at gunning down runners, allowing 33 steals while only throwing out three people. He backed up Luca Bischeri that year. He was back with Anzio as an outfielder in 2006 and produced at a .188/.294/.261 rate. He then fell out of Italy's top league for three years. In 2009, he dominated Serie A2 with Anzio, leading in both average (.461) and RBI (39). That won him a return ticket to the IBL.
In 2010, Sanna was 13 for 56 with 8 walks and a RBI for Nettuno. He hit .255/.382/.294 for Nettuno in '11, playing mainly DH. In the 2011 Italian Series, he went 0 for 10 as Nettuno fell to T&A San Marino.
