Biographical Information[edit]
Emmett Bowles pitched one inning in the majors for the 1922 White Sox, handling the third inning of a game against the 1922 Indians. Just as Emmett appeared in one major league game, the man who pinch-hit for him, Augie Swentor, also appeared in only one major league game.
Emmett was born in Wanette, OK in 1898. The only other major leaguer born in the same state in the same year was Chief Yellow Horse. Bowles is the only major leaguer born in Wanette. Through 2019, he is one of five major leaguers to be named Emmett. Two other big leaguers have had the same last name - Charlie and Brian Bowles.
A site here believes Emmett was a full-blooded Potowatomie Native American. TheDeadBallEra.com shows him as serving in World War I.
