Biographical Information

Elmer Sexauer was at Wake Forest University in 1947 and 1948 and came to the 1948 Brooklyn Dodgers to pitch a couple of games in September. At age 22, he was the same age as Ralph Branca and a year older than Duke Snider.

He was thrown out of a game before he ever appeared in one - the Brooklyn team was riding umpire Jocko Conlan, and someone threw a towel. When Conlan asked who did that, manager Burt Shotton looked at the players, decided Sexauer was expendable, and fingered him. Sexauer later hurt his arm throwing and was sent to the minors. He later spent decades working for Kraft. He was living in a retirement village in Florida at the time of his death in 2011.

Ernie Harwell told a joke about a sportswriter trying to reach Elmer for an interview at a hotel, and asking the telephone operator "Do you have a Sexauer at your hotel?", and getting the answer that "Sexauer? Honey, we barely get coffee breaks here!".
