Biographical Information[edit]
Elijah "Bumpus" Jones pitched for the Detroit Tigers in 1907 and 1909.
He was two years younger than Sam Crawford and five years older than Ty Cobb on the Tigers.
For many years he was the only "Elijah" ever to play in the majors, until 2007 when Elijah Dukes made his debut.
Jones had some success in the minors. He went 19-14 for Montreal in 1908 and 13-12 for the same team in 1910. In 1911 he went 16-13 for Jersey City.
He is not to be confused with Bumpus Jones, also a pitcher.
