Biographical Information[edit]

Eizo Goda pitched for seven seasons in Nippon Pro Baseball. He signed with the Nankai Hawks in 1961 and debuted wearing number 61 in 1964, when he went 2-3 with a 2.01 ERA. He walked only six in 49 1/3 IP.

Goda had a 2-2, 2.66 record in 1965 then improved to 10-1, 2.35 in 1966 with a 1.02 WHIP. Had he qualified, he would have ranked 8th in the Pacific League in ERA. He was 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA in three appearances in the 1966 Japan Series, winning game five; the Hawks fell in six to the Yomiuri Giants.

Goda's busiest year was 1967 when he started 32 games and relieved in 22 others, working 234 2/3 innings. He was 12-11 with a 2.91 ERA. He fell to 5-9, 4.03 in 1968 with a .291 opponent average and 0-4, 3.63 in 1969, when opponents hit .333.

Moving to the Hanshin Tigers in 1971, he allowed two runs in three innings to end his career. Overall, Goda pitched 180 games in NPB, going 31-30 with a 3.01 ERA.
