Yeong-gu Lee played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 3 years and Nippon Professional Baseball for 2 years.
Lee was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 9th round of the 1972 NPB draft, but he only got 3 at-bats combined in his 9-year career with the Carp. He decided to join the Sammi Superstars in 1983, and he hit .277/.336/.386 with 21 doubles in his first season in Korea. Lee was 9th in hits (between Il-kwon Kim and Kyeong-sik Shin) and 3rd in doubles (tied with Woo-yeol Kim, Hae-chang Lee and Yong-cheol Kim). He then recorded a .257/.333/.357 batting line with 23 doubles in 1984, and he was 3rd in doubles (2 behind Mun-jong Hong). Lee played 77 games with a .280/.350/.390 batting line in 1985, then he announced his retirement.
Overall, Lee hit .270/.339/.376 with 268 hits and 13 homers in 3 seasons in the KBO.
