Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Edwin Quirarte played in the San Francisco Giants minor league system from 2008 to 2015.

He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 39th round of the 2005 amateur draft, but did not sign. He was then taken by the Giants in the 5th round of the 2008 amateur draft - a few picks ahead of Daniel Hudson and far ahead of Alex Avila - and inked a contract.

In his debut season, Quirarte was 3-3 with 14 saves and a 2.12 ERA in 26 appearances, striking out 33 batters in 29 2/3 innings for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. He split 2009 between the Augusta Greenjackets and San Jose Giants and went a combined 6-7 with 12 saves and a 4.47 ERA in 46 games. In 2010, Quirarte was 2-9 with 6 saves and a 3.77 ERA in 41 appearances for San Jose and in 2011, he was 3-3 with a save in 47 games split between San Jose and the Richmond Flying Squirrels. With Richmond again in 2012, Quirarte was 3-1 with 2 saves and a 3.18 ERA in 39 games. He was 3-5 with 10 saves and a 2.61 ERA in 56 appearances for Richmond in 2013, earning a spot on the Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star team. He had a 3.23 ERA in 2014 and a 3.59 mark in the Giants system in 2015, reaching Triple A (for a single start) for the first time. He also played independent ball that year. In 2016 and 2017, he joined the Mexican League. He was 3-2 with a 4.20 ERA in 49 appearances at that level.
