Biographical Information[edit]
Edward Henry was a minor league pitcher for several years during the 1940's.
Henry went undefeated during his high school career at Harris High. At 15, he was pitching in the Harrisburg City Twilight League.
Henry was signed by the Boston Bees and pitched for their Bradford affiliate in the Class-D Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York League during 1940. He went 2-3 with a 5.18 earned run average in 9 games. In 40 innings pitched, Henry gave up 45 hits and 28 walks. He also saw some playing time with the Vancouver Capilanos of the Class-B Western International League.
In 1941, Edward pitched for the Goldsboro Goldbugs in the Coastal Plain League. In 6 games, he had an 0-2 record. He also returned to Vancouver for part of the season where he saw action in 5 games.
Henry, pitched for the International League Baltimore Orioles in 1945. At that time, they were an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. He logged 5 innings of relief in 5 games. He had an 0-1 record for the O's.
Following an arm injury, Henry returned to Harrisburg where he managed and umpired in sandlot games. From 1952 to 1981, Henry served his community as a fireman. During the last three years of his service, he was the Harrisburg Fire Chief. Besides his work in the fire department, Edward also drove taxis, delivered flowers and worked as an executive at a moving and storage company.
