Biographical Information

The Tampa Bay Rays signed C Edgardo Rodriguez as an amateur free agent on July 3, 2017. He made his professional debut a year later, with the DSL Rays 2, in 2018, hitting a solid .330 with 6 homers and 34 RBIs in 51 games. In 2019, he moved to te United States with the GCL Rays, but only played 10 games before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season in early July. He did well in his brief time, hitting .400. Even though he had minimal professional experience by that point, on January 9, 2020, he was included ina major trade with the St. Louis Cardinals that saw him join the Redbirds' organization alongside another prospect, P Matthew Liberatore. The Cardinals gave up two major leaguers in Jose Martinez and Randy Arozarena and the two teams also swapped picks in the Compensation Rounds of the 2020 amateur draft to complete the trade.
