Biographical Information

Although he was just a .238 career hitter in 14 years in the National League Eddie Miller was a seven-time All-Star for his outstanding play at shortstop. He led all National league shortstops in fielding percentage for five straight seasons from 1940-1944 and again in 1946 and 1947.

Miller was originally with the Cincinnati Reds in 1936 before being traded to the Boston Bees, where he hit a career-high .276 in 1940. He was back with the Reds from 1943 through 1947, the year he had his most productive season at the plate with 19 home runs and 87 RBIs while leading the NL in doubles with 38.

Eddie, who was last with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1948 and 1949 and the St. Louis Cardinals in 1950, owned and operated baseball schools in Texas, Kentucky and Florida. He made his home in Lake Worth, FL, where he died July 31, 1997, at age 80.

His younger brother, William, played in the minor leagues.
