Biographical Information[edit]

Right-hander Ed Wright had a 13-5 record, including a no-hitter for the Indianapolis Indians of the American Association midway through the 1945 season when he was acquired by the Boston Braves. The 26-year-old seven-year veteran of the minor leagues went 8-3 in a dozen starts for the 1945 Braves to finish the year with a combined 21-8 record.

Wright was 12-9 for the Braves in 1946 while also hitting a solid .305 (18 for 59). Ed struggled early in 1947 going 3-3 with a 6.40 ERA in 23 appearances and faded from the big leagues after three appearances out of the bullpen for the 1948 National League Champion Braves.

Wright spent the next several years back in the American Association with the exception of 24 games in relief for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1952. Overall Ed wound up his major league run at 25-16 in 101 appearances.

Wright would spend two more seasons (1953 and 1954) in the minors before ending his eleven-year run with a 96-80 record and a 3.80 ERA while pitching 1,431 innings. He also managed the Hopkinsville Hoppers of the class D Kitty League for part of the 1953 and 1954 seasons.

Wright died on November 19, 1995, at the age of 76 in his hometown of Dyersburg, TN, where he had been the owner of an Exxon service station.
