Ed West spent two seasons in the minors. The Seattle Mariners took West in the fifth round of the 1984 amateur draft. In his pro debut that summer, he was 4-3 with a 3.04 ERA for the Bellingham Mariners. The next year, he returned to Bellingham and improved to 8-4, 2.4 with only 20 walks in 81 innings. He tied Jeff Shaver, Tim Burcham and Steve McGuire for the Northwest League in wins and was 4th in ERA, between Steve Sharts and Shaver. He was still left off the NWL All-Star team, as Burcham, Darrell Rodgers, Clay Parker and Joe Lynch were picked instead as pitchers. Despite his fine season, it was West's last in pro ball.
