Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Ed Walsh played in the Chicago White Sox system in 1987 and 1988. He was taken by the club in the 14th round of the 1987 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher David Nied.

He batted .397/.431/.448 in 58 at-bats for the GCL White Sox in 1987, but struggled with the Peninsula White Sox (.179/.303/.214) so he hit only .289/.366/.333 in 114 at-bats on the year. With the Utica Blue Sox in 1988, he hit .125/.222/.250 in eight at-bats. Overall, he batted .279/.357/.328 in 122 at-bats.

He later coached at Toll Gate High School, Bishop Hendricken High School and Warwick Vets High School.

He played hockey in college.

He died on August 13, 2014 at 48 years old.
