Biographical Information

Ed Trumbull pitched ten games for the Washington Nationals in 1884. He posted a record of 1-9, but then the team as a whole went 12-51. In addition to his pitching, Ed appeared in 15 games in the outfield, but hit .116. Sporting Life of August 13, 1884 reported on the "disbandment" of the club, and said some players were left "financially embarrassed", such that a benefit game was held on their behalf in August. Trumbull was reported as going to the Springfield team.

"The superstitious are quite worried whether it Is an omen of good luck or not that the Washington team have so many double letters in their names, especially double "ll's." The names having such double letters are Lloyd Moxley, Hollingshead, Trumbull, Yewell, Fennelly, Hamill and Stone­wall." - Sporting Life, April 9, 1884, leaving out Henry Mullin, John Hanna and Bob Barr
