Ed Tromp played 11 years in Hoofdklasse from 1977-1991, twice winning MVP awards. He played for HCAW (1977-1978), Neptunus (1980-1982), Sparta (1983-1984), PSV (1988-1989) and Quick Amersfoort (1990-1991). He was pitching coach for Quick when he played there.
Tromp also played in Serie A1 in 1985, going 7-13 with a 5.14 ERA as a pitcher and hitting .295/.391/.487 as a first baseman/DH.
Tromp played for the Dutch national team in 54 games. He played in the 1978 Amateur World Series (1 for 9, 3 walks at the plate; 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA on the mound), 1980 Amateur World Series, 1981 European Championship (Gold Medal), 1982 Amateur World Series, 1983 European Championship (Silver Medal) and 1983 Intercontinental Cup.
