Biographical Information[edit]
In addition to his playing career, Ed Merrill umpired one game in the American Association in 1884.
Ed was born in Kentucky in 1860 and got his major league start with the 1882 Louisville Eclipse of the 1882 American Association, appearing in one game in the outfield. He also was with the 1882 Worcester Ruby Legs of the 1882 National League for two games, playing third base. The following year he played for the Fort Wayne Hoosiers, and early in the year thereafter was sold to the 1884 Indianapolis Hoosiers, for whom he played 55 games, all at second base.
He lived a long life, dying at age 85 in Elmwood Park, IL.
