Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Ed Howard was drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the 16th overall pick of the 2020 amateur draft, from a high school in Chicago, IL.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic which shut down the minor leagues in 2020, he had to wait until 2021 to make his professional debut. After not playing competitively since 2019, he spent that season in the Low-A East with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, for whom he hit .225/.277/.315 in 80 games. In 2022, he moved up to the South Bend Cubs of the Midwest League but played just 23 games, hitting .244 with 1 homer and 11 RBIs. His season was cut short on May 10th by a freak hip injury that he suffered when running to first base and tried to avoid a tag. The injury required season-ending surgery.

Growing up in Chicago, IL, he was a member of the "Jackie Robinson West" little league team that captured the country's attention by making it to the finals of the 2014 Little League World Series, before being stripped of its title due to violations committed by its adult supervisors.
