Biographical Information

Ed Hovlik broke into the majors in 1918 with a 1.29 ERA in 28 innings. The following year he got into only three games in the majors.

The New York Times, March 14, 1915, mentions that Hovlik was sent by Cleveland to New Orleans. The book Spitting on Diamonds mentions a game in 1915 in which New Orleans jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning against Mobile before Hovlik ever took the mound. The April 18, 1917 issue of Sporting Life indicates that Hovlik played for the St. Joseph Drummers the previous year and was expected to continue in 1917.

He spent most of 1919 in the starting rotation of the Minneapolis Millers. He also pitched for them in 1920.

He is the second Hovlik to come to the major leagues, after Joe Hovlik.
