Biographical information[edit]
Earl Lawson was a sportswriter who served as the "beat writer" for the Cincinnati Reds, writing for the Cincinnati Times-Star, Cincinnati Post and The Sporting News. After World War II, he starting covering the Reds, and he continued until 1985, the time of his retirement from the Post. That year, he earned induction into the writers wing of the Hall of Fame by winning the J.G. Taylor Spink Award. He was one of the first sportswriters to use quotes from players and managers.
He also served as an official scorer during his career, and in 1977 he served as President of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BaseballLibrary.com says he served as President of the BWAA in 1976).
Lawson is interred at the Arlington National Cemetery.
