Biographical Information

Outfielder Earl Clark spent nine active seasons in professional baseball from 1926 to 1934.

Earl debuted in the minors with the Richmond Colts of the Class B Virginia League, spending 1926 and much of 1927 (batting .386 with 16 homers in 394 at bats in '27) with them before making his major league debut with the Boston Braves on August 17, 1927. Earl spent parts of each of the ensuing six seasons in Boston, establishing a big league record when he recorded 12 putouts in the outfield during a May 12, 1929 game with the Cincinnati Reds. He was dealt to the St. Louis Browns prior to the 1934 season, finishing his career hitting .291 (240-for-826) in 293 games. Clark also spent six seasons in the minors with eight teams in four leagues. In the minors, Earl played 412 games, hitting .320.

Earl had just retired to take a job with the FBI when his car was hit by a streetcar, dying from his injuries at 30 on January 16, 1938 at the Garfield Hospital in Washington, DC. He was Interred at the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD.
