Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Earl Carnahan played in the minor leagues from 1937 to 1942 and in 1946, winning two batting titles in a row. He spent his whole career in the Coastal Plain League, save for 1942, when he was in the Bi-State League, and he spent the majority of his career (1939-1942, 1946) with the Wilson Tobs. After three decent seasons to begin his career, he rattled off a stretch of four excellent ones. In 1940, he hit .355 with a .551 slugging percentage, collecting 170 hits—including 40 doubles, 10 triples and 13 home runs—in 129 games. He paced the league in batting average and RBI (119). In 1941, he hit .370 with 38 doubles, 11 triples and 9 dingers to lead the league in average and hits (176) and in 1942, he hit .337, though his power declined. After not playing from 1943 to 1945, he hit .315 in 108 games in 1946 to wrap up his career. Overall, Carnahan hit .318 with 974 hits in 774 games over 7 seasons.
