Biographical Information[edit]

Dyan Jorge defected from Cuba in late 2019. He was signed by the Colorado Rockies organization as an international free agent on January 15, 2022 for a signing bonus worth $2.8 million. That summer, he began his professional career in the Dominican Summer League. He hit .320/.402/.452 in 53 games split between the Rockies' two DSL teams. He showed some extra base punch with 13 doubles, a triple, and 4 home runs in 206 at bats, and struck 25 times (17.0%). However, he committed 16 errors at shortstop for a .933 fielding percentage. He didn't commit any errors at second base, but only had 5 total chances.

He was moved over to the Arizona Complex League for 2023 and raked an impressive .370/.495/.644 in 21 games; he hit 5 doubles, 3 triples, and 3 long balls in 73 at bats and fielded .978 at shortstop (2 errors in 89 chances). With nothing left to prove at the rookie league level, the Rockies moved up to class A ball and the Fresno Grizzlies. His offensive output understandably declined at the higher level, as he slashed .283/.322/.338 against California League pitching. His extra base production fell markedly, but he still hit 11 doubles in 198 at bats. His fielding remained shaky with a .916 fielding percentage (13 errors in 155 total chances) at shortstop, but at second base, he handled 33 chances without an error.

2024 would be his full season in a full-season league, but it would not be back in the Cal League. Instead, he was moved up to the Advanced-A Spokane Indians of the Northwest League. He started out like a house afire, hitting .390/.468/.463 in his first 10 games. But his hot start did not last, and he was hitting .284/.373/.314 at the end of May. A rough August sunk his batting average to .266, and his season totals were .267/.336/.319. He collected 13 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 home runs; his two ding dongs both came in the same game, and amazingly came on the road and not hitter friendly Avista Stadium - he hit them in PK Park off Manuel Mercedes and Cody Tucker in a 13-5 drubbing of the Eugene Emeralds on July 26. However, his strikeout rate was much higher as it had been in the lower minors (25.3%); his 122 strikeouts were 5th most in the Northwest league. On the flip side, his glove improved, posting a .944 fielding percentage at shortstop; he slid over to second base when fellow Cuban prospect Andy Perez was called up from Fresno on August 20 and claimed the shortstop position. His 48 walks were tied for 11th most in the NWL, he was 3rd in hits with 129, he was 4th in stolen bases (36), and was the league leader in runs scored (82; teammate Cole Carrigg was second with 80).

His given name is pronounced nearly (if not exactly) the same as Dion James' and Deion Sanders' first names.
