Biographical Information

Bert "Dutch" Lerchen was with the Boston Red Sox during the later part of the 1910 season. He was a year older than teammate Smoky Joe Wood. In 1911 Lerchen appeared in 182 games for the Sacramento Solons.

"Manager Pat Donovan is banking some on that lad, Lerchen, whom he picked up in Detroit. He handles himself finely in practice and looks like a comer." - Sporting Life, Sept. 3, 1910

The Sporting News in 1912 referred to Lerchen as having come from the Detroit Athletic Club, along with some other top players over the years.
